1979 VW Rabbit with the 1.5L diesel and a 5 speed manual transmission. The car runs and drives great, and has tons of new parts. It was used to commute between Ventura and Pasadena 3-4 times a week, 160 miles each time. It has been driven 100k miles in the last 4 years and has never sat.
Everything works except the heater. There is a pioneer head unit with AUX and pioneer speakers installed.
The cylinder head, head gasket, starter, brake pads and rotors, injectors, alternator and battery have all been replaced recently, and I have all the records.
It has a clean title in hand and current CA registration.
The tires have about 30-50% tread remaining and are worn evenly.
The body is very straight and has original mint green paint. There is rust around the windows but no other rust on the car. It has the rare Scirocco wheels that are very nice.
The interior shows wear but is not beat. The dash has some cracks in it but has a pad on it. The drivers seat has a little wear but is still very comfortable.
The motor fires right up with no smoke and the trans and clutch work perfectly. If you don’t know how to drive a manual transmission I’m not going to let you test drive it.
This car has had everything needed done to make it a reliable commuter. It gets 46 miles to the gallon, has tons of personality and is fun to drive. However it is 36 years old and has some issues. The steering wheel has a slight shimmy to it and the heater does not work, like mentioned above.
If you are mechanically inclined this is a very cheap car to maintain, register, insure, fuel…etc.
It comes with some parts including a new downpipe-back exhaust. It also includes all the specialty tools needed to work on it, a shop manual and tons of service records.
